What does it mean to be a Green Circle Salon?
Green Circle Salons encompasses over 16,000 salons globally who are reducing their carbon footprint by repurposing, recycling, and responsibly disposing of their waste — up to 95% of it! Salons send their waste to Green Circle to be turned into clean energy or new products, ensuring it won’t end up in landfills or waterways.
Here’s how that works at our salon, and how we take it even further to reduce our ecological footprint:
Excess colour
It’s almost impossible to have zero colour left over after a colour service. This extra colour that would usually be dumped down a sink and end up in our waterways is sent to Green Circle to be responsibly disposed of, or recycled and turned into clean energy or fuel.
Colour tubes and used foils
Just like with leftover colour, our empty colour tubes and used foils from colour services are responsibly disposed of or recycled. Green Circle takes these metal items and sorts them by grade and type, melting them down to create new items like bikes and car parts!
Repurposed hair clippings
Hair clippings are another super common waste product in salons. Imagine how many haircuts happen in just one salon in a week — that’s a lot of hair going in the trash! Green Circle uses these hair clippings and gives them a new life. Two of the ways they repurpose these clippings is by using them to clean up oil spills, and creating beds for animals displaced by wildfires. That sounds a lot more sustainable — and wholesome — to us!
Taking it further
We take Green Circle’s ethos even further by adopting eco-friendly water and light fixtures in our salons. Both locations use ECOHEADS at every sink, which reduces water consumption up to 65% while still delivering exceptional water pressure. Our light fixtures are automatic, so they turn on when you enter the room, and turn off when you leave, so you’ll never have to worry about leaving a light on. Our flooring, sourced from Torly’s Flooring, also contributes to our LEED Certification and is VOC free. We also use iPads in place of paper documents, making both our locations mostly paperless!
